In his early 70’s and slowly stepping back from a decades-long career in dentistry, Dr. Robert Ruhl has traded his dental tools for paintbrushes and glass cutters.

Rooted in New England, Dr. Ruhl finds endless inspiration in the scenery around him.  From the misty mountains of Vermont to the rugged coastline of Maine, he translates the quiet rhythms of the region into luminous landscape paintings.  Each canvas is a homage to a place - the tide pulling back from a rocky shore, the first snow settling on a familiar road.

Alongside painting, Dr. Ruhl creates stained glass works that are as contemplative as they are beautiful.  With careful attention to color and light, his panels capture the same natural world he paints, turning sunlight into story.

For Dr. Ruhl, art in retirement is about slowing down and really seeing: the texture of wood, the weight of clouds, the way late-afternoon light hits water.  Through both mediums, he celebrates the beauty of nature and the freedom of a second creative chapter.
